Slow Death

Dog days of summer

I recently made the decision to stop taking Cymbalta, a medication known for its difficulty to taper off from. My decision was based on the side effects exacerbated by climate change—this medication in particular increases body temperature—and I found myself unable to take it while living in Imperial Valley, known for having temperatures that exceed three digits.

This project started coming together when I reached levels of despair. I had a nervous breakdown in March 2026 and was bed bound for two weeks. I started going on walks to get my mind off the severe withdrawal symptoms and all I could notice were trees that were dying or had died from the heat. I had to pause my walks during summer due to the weather but here are some images I took during that time.

Since then, this project has evolved into an archive of what places looked like before climate catastrophe. Most—but not all—of the photos were taken in Imperial Valley.
